Make-up assessment

SP Equation's makeup department specializes in instrumental analysis of the performance of foundation, lip, and eye products.
We evaluate coverage, shine, and matte finish using precise, reproducible, and objective in vitro methods.
Our protocols are tailored to the requirements of high-end makeup brands and enable us to substantiate robust product claims. We support our clients in scientifically demonstrating the performance of their formulas.
Methods
SHINE AND MATTENESS
The principle consists of alternately illuminating a specific strip of fabric attached to a cylindrical support with polarized light and taking two images of this support: one in cross-polarized light, the other in a parallel direction. From this data, it is possible to determine an index called BNT Luster.
BNT Luster characterizes shine: the higher it is, the more shine the tested product provides.
FOUNDATION COVERAGE
The principle consists of measuring the L*a*b* colorimetric parameters of white and black samples before and after automated application of liquid makeup products. From these color parameters, a calculation of coverage between the white and black supports can be performed.
We conduct studies with our partners:
