VOLUME & FRIZZ

SP Equation can study and assess the impact of hair treatment on the volume and frizz of hair swatch, its evolution through time or according to environmental conditions (high humidity, agitation, etc.) thanks to the Boléro device developed in partnership with  BOSSA NOVA Vision.

Principle

The method consists of acquiring pictures of a hair swatch slowly rotating in front of a backlight. Then the acquired pictures are converted into black and white images with grayscale and processed based on a given threshold to separate the swatch bulk from the Fly-aways.

RESISTANCE TO BENDING AND ABRASION

Thanks to a new technology, SP Equation assesses the resistance to Bending and Abrasion of hair fibers and the impact of hair treatment (Flexabrasion measurement).

Principle

The Method quantitatively evaluates the resistance of hair subjected to repeated tensile, bending and abrasion stress by determining its lifetime before breakage.

Thus, the alteration of both the surface and the core of the fiber is evaluated.

HAIR SHINE

Thanks to the SAMBA Hair by BOSSA NOVA Vision, SP Equation measures the shine induced by the hair treatment. The SAMBA Hair has become a standard reference in hair shine measurement. It allows also hair shine assessment on volunteers (in vivo).

Principle

The principle consists of illuminating a hair tress attached to a cylindrical mount with a polarized light. The camera acquires 2 images in parallel and crossed light in order to get a specular and diffuse image of the tress. The shine is done by the BNT Luster (a parameter designed by BNV).

Principle:

Impact to hair color lastingness and hair treatment impact on hair color protection are evaluated by the color distance (DE*76) between the original colored hair and the hair treated with several shampoos.

HEAT PROTECTION

SP equation has developed a new method to assess the impact of heat on hair fiber (flat iron, hair dryer, etc.). It is based on flexabrasion measurement with a specific treatment protocol.

Principle

The principle is based on the application of a heat protection product followed by a hair smoothing with flat iron at high temperature. The resistance of the hair is evaluated by measuring the hair lifetime before breakage through Flexabrasion.

Principle
